If you don't know your history, how do you know who you really are?

My father once told me that if you don't know your history, how do you know who you really are? Ever since that day it has always stuck with me to try to learn as much about my history as possible. If I could become an expert on any subject in the world I would choose history. I say history because the history that is given to us is not the same history that has happened, there’s always details that the textbooks don’t tell us about. I strongly believe the school system teaches what they want us to know rather telling us our actual history when it’s an important part of a person's life. I learn about my history more and more everyday, it shapes me into the person I truly am and I have never been prouder to say I am an American Indian.
