Ryan Edwards grew up in Brooklyn his whole life, born and raised. For the first 7 years of his life he lived in East Flatbush with his mother and two other siblings. He had trouble getting along with the other kids in his school because he was the only Afro-Latino kid in the neighborhood, they separated themselves from him because he was different. Ryan moved to Bushwick when he was 8 years old, he also had difficulties adjusting to his new neighborhood. Nevertheless, Bushwick is now his home that he's grown to love and cherish his community. Ryan was used to being alone, not because he had trouble making friends but it was because he preferred to be alone rather than with a group of people. His love for music came from his family who constantly had music playing throughout his childhood, his love grew more because of spending a lot of time with his father who wrote poetry about black empowerment and taught Ryan where his roots came from. His love for music was the same that of his sons. Being a Afro-Latino, he was exposed to a lot of different music. His mother was from San Juan, Puerto Rico and she loved music but the love she had for music of her culture was unmatched. With his father being from Brooklyn he listened to a lot of hip-hop but he had a undying love for jazz music. Ryan always wanted to create art that moved people just like his father did to him but always feared it would end bad, he thought if he got into the world of art no one would understand his point of view or hear his message. Music is a huge part of Ryan's life, there's almost not a time where he's not listening to music or singing song lyrics in his head or out loud of any kind of genre. He’s currently working on an EP that has no title just yet but he plans for it to speak on gun violence in America, Black Lives Matter and poverty, all the issues he’s dealt with first-hand. He wants to speak about how serious these issues are but he also wants to let people know they can overcome it. There are ways to have a voice in this world and this EP is just Ryan Edward’s first step until he’s in front of a live audience speaking his truth.
